PALACE OF THE COUNTS OF MAINE (CITY HALL)

General description

Fragments Palace Plantagenet (1126-1240) remain inserted in the building of the current town hall of Le Mans. The complex is organized around two main poles noble, secular and ecclesiastical, the Aula earldom and the collegiate St. Pierre-la-Cour. The Aula (great hall) provides the framework for the exercise of power and representation. It is there that are held ceremonies and feasts. Count Geoffrey Plantagenet and Matilda his wife, then the powerful Henry II, their son, master of the English kingdom and the western half of France, marked their presence this center of public life. If it maintains its medieval allure side Rostov on Don Avenue and Rue de la Comedie, the building has a classical façade in L with triangular pediment on the wing back, side St. Peter's Square. The hall for temporary exhibitions. Free entry.
