Must inside the Saint -Julien cathedral, discover during your visit to Le Mans and Sarthe ! The heavenly concert by 47 musician angels (late fourteenth ) , painted on the vaults of the chapel of the Virgin , is a top of the Western Gothic painting closer to the famous tapestry of the " Apocalypse " of Angers, which he is contemporary and stylistically close . It is the work of an anonymous painter of the court of the kings of France Charles V and VI. Some of the instruments represented , as the " chessboard " ( table covered with a board with a keyboard on one side ) , have disappeared and are known only by these paintings. This fresco was not rediscovered until the nineteenth century. During the Night of Dreams , these angels escape arches of the chapel and back to life to give a heavenly concert on the Romanesque portal of the cathedral. Do not miss this summer!
