MENHIR OF THE CATHEDRAL

General description

Erected between 4000 and 5000 B.C. on the site of Cité Plantagenet , the menhir is the oldest witness of Le Mans history. This standing stone , long considered the " navel " of Le Mans, was the subject of various cults making him the center of the universe or a symbol of fertility. pagan sign , it was saved from destruction by Saint -Julien , Le Mans came to Christianize the fourth century.
