THE ORATORY CHAPEL

General description

Former chapel of the college of the Oratory today Lycée Montesquieu , in Le Mans. The Chapel of the Oratory was built from 1675 to 1683. It is the only church that survived from that time. The chapel is characteristic of the seventeenth century , with its nave without collateral , its barrel vaults , its short transept ... It was classified historic monument in its entirety in 1982. Closed down in 1991, it has been major restoration work . The two key pieces still in place are an organ of the eighteenth century , remarkable and beautiful canopy of the high altar ( XVII century) . Open only during concerts and during Heritage Days.
