Top tourist attraction in Sarthe, Le Mans cathedral has , with Notre-Dame de Chartres one of the finest sets of medieval stained glass . Le Mans cathedral was built between the XI and XV century in a fusion roussard stones , limestone and glass, a richness that makes her the "archaeological" cathedral of medieval religious art . It is one of the largest in France , measuring 134 meters long and covering a ground area of 5000m² . His term comes from Julien , who evangelized Le Mans in the fourth century . The heavenly concert by 47 musician angels painted on the vaults of the Virgin's chapel, is a masterpiece of Western Gothic painting .
