General description

5 hectare park, the Jardin des Plantes (or Garden horticulture) is located near the city center and is separated in two parts.
Jean-Charles Adolphe Alphand, creator Parc Monceau, Buttes-Chaumont and Montsouris park in Paris, drew the plans of these places made between 1867 and 1870. The Botanical Garden was created at the initiative of the Company Horticulture Sarthe. Owned by the City of Le Mans since 1881, is a listed site since 1945. Composed of a party "A la française", with a rose garden, a terrace and mail a bandstand and a portion in English style the narrow alleys leading to a wooded pond. This garden has a fine collection of oaks and some remarkable trees and discusses the various sites of the Sarthe with a rustic charm. The two parts are connected by an underpass in rock, the Ragot pass. Sculptures by Louis Derbré, Suzanne Jean, ... there are visible. A kindergarten was redeveloped.
