General description

Fragrant garden at the foot of the wall of Le Mans.
In the early 1970s, the neighborhood of small houses enclosed between the Roman wall and the river Sarthe was demolished. The old quarter of Gourdaine, it remains only two fountains and a postern. Since then, the City of Le Mans conducted at the monument a beautiful garden inspired by the medieval urban layout. A grid of islands filled with clumps of perennials and grasses recalls last density Gourdaine district. This lovely garden has received a national award from the Heritage enhancement.
